New Gravel Driveway Installation
A real gravel driveway is three layers, not one. We start by stripping the topsoil and grading the subgrade, then lay geotextile fabric where the soil calls for it, then a base layer of #304 limestone compacted with a packer, then a top layer of #57 or finer for the driving surface. Final step is crowning the driveway so water sheds off the sides instead of running down the middle.
Gravel Driveway Refurbishing
If your driveway is rutted, washed out, or has more dirt mixed in than gravel, refurbishing usually fixes it for a fraction of the cost of a new build. We pull up the existing surface with a power rake, regrade it back to shape, lay fresh #304 limestone, and run a packer across it for a tight, even finish.
This is the kind of job most driveways need every 5 to 10 years depending on traffic and how the original was built.
Driveway Culvert Installation
If your driveway crosses a ditch, swale, or any natural water path, you need a culvert. We install new ones for properties without them and replace crushed, rusted, or undersized pipe on driveways that have flooded out. We size the culvert to the actual water flow on your property, not just whatever pipe is on the truck.
Why Base Depth Matters in Ohio
Ohio’s freeze-thaw cycle is what kills driveways built on the cheap. Water gets into the base layer, freezes, expands, and lifts the gravel. Repeat that 30 to 50 times a winter and the driveway loses its shape. The fix is base depth and proper drainage from day one. A driveway with 6 inches of compacted base will outlast a driveway with 2 inches by a decade.
